Sun Unity: Giving Back
In coordination with Sun’s Social Responsibility Program, Sun Unity, Empower attendees will have the ability to take part in a fun and exciting charitable team building event.
During the registration process, attendees will select one charitable cause from a list of charities. By doing so, Sun will purchase supplies to assemble a “care package” for the charity. Then, while on-site at Empower 2017, attendees will be split into groups who will assemble care packages for the charities selected.
This activity is a great way to help put the “unity” in community!
More About the Charities
A Gift for Teaching‘s mission is to improve public school education by providing resources and materials to teachers for their students in need.
Today, A Gift For Teaching serves 338 public schools. There are more than 210,000 kids whose families live at or below the poverty line. But the most shocking number is that 13,000 of those students are homeless.
Picture a child at school trying to write without a pencil, read without books or dream without the tools to put their ideas onto paper. This is the reality for far too many students in our community. For thousands, these basic learning tools are a luxury. In fact, more than 65% of the students in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties in Florida come from families that can’t afford lunch, let alone school supplies.
Moved by this need and the fact that teachers, on average, spend $500 – $1,000 out of their own pockets each year to provide basic supplies for their students, philanthropist and nonprofit professional, Gary Landwirth, founded A Gift For Teaching (AGFT) in 1998.
Give Kids The World Village is a 79-acre, nonprofit resort in Central Florida that provides weeklong, cost-free vacations to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The Village and its community partners provide children and their families accommodations in fully-furnished villas, transportation, tickets to theme parks, meals, daily entertainment and much more.
Each year 27,000 children in the United States are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Half of all children eligible for a wish through a partnering wish-granting organization choose to visit Central Florida and its collection of theme parks and other attractions.
Give Kids the World Village’s goal, quite simply, is to provide everything these deserving families need to make their trip the vacation of a lifetime. Since 1986, more than 150,000 children and families have had their dreams fulfilled in a whimsical Village unlike any other place on earth.
Just Our Soldiers’ Helpers (J.O.S.H.) exists to provide encouragement and support to deployed service members from all branches of the US Military. J.O.S.H. does this by preparing and shipping care packages consisting of snacks, food, hygiene products, and other necessities to them.
J.O.S.H. knows that the care package contents are wanted and needed, but believe the most important items included in their care packages are our support and love. Each package is sent with lots of both!
Their goal is for care packages to brighten the days of their recipients and bring smiles to our heroes’ faces while they serve our country far from their families and friends.
